Two new scholarships! Application window open

The Community Foundation of South Lake County is proud to announce that 12 scholarships will be available for the next school year. Applications for the 2025-26 school year opened Dec. 1.

These opportunities make a difference to students pursuing a wide range of educational and career paths, from traditional college to technical training. With the support of our generous community, we continue building a stronger South Lake County, one student at a time.

This year, we are introducing two new scholarships to expand access to hands-on learning and workforce preparation.

New: Southern Sisterhood Society Scholarship
This scholarship supports South Lake County residents ages 16 to 24 who are pursuing vocational, technical, or certificate programs. Awards may help cover tuition, books, fees, and required equipment. Preference is given to female students and those who demonstrate motivation and readiness for career training.

New: Frederick W. Detar Scholarship
Honoring the teaching philosophy of Mr. Frederick W. Detar, this scholarship supports Lake and Sumter County high school seniors planning to attend technical school or join an apprenticeship. Students involved in hands-on learning areas such as automotive, HVAC, welding, construction, and similar fields are encouraged to apply. Awards may cover full program costs for students who remain in good standing.

These two scholarships join 10 others funded by generous donors, civic groups, businesses and community partners who believe in the power of education to transform lives. Together, we are opening doors for local students.
