Legacy giving within everyone’s reach

A new year offers a meaningful opportunity to consider what matters most: our families, our community, and the legacy we hope to leave behind. The Community Foundation of South Lake is deeply grateful for the generosity of the individuals and families who strengthen our community through heartfelt philanthropy.

One of the most profound ways to ensure your values continue shaping the community you love is through a legacy gift. Most planned gifts come from everyday people, not the ultra-wealthy. While big donations make headlines, legacy giving is largely driven by donors of all income levels who care deeply about a cause.

What Is a Legacy Gift?

Also known as a planned gift, a legacy gift is a future commitment made through your estate or financial plan to support the causes closest to your heart.

Common options include:

  • Making a bequest in your will or trust
  • Naming the Community Foundation as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy
  • Establishing a charitable gift annuity (through a third-party vendor)

These gifts are often flexible and allow you to retain control of your assets during your lifetime while ensuring lasting support for your community. For many individuals and families, a planned gift provides peace of mind knowing assets will be available if you need them, and what remains will benefit the causes you care about.

While charitable giving is often inspired by connection to a nonprofit’s mission, planned gifts may also offer financial and tax advantages, depending on the structure. By working with your professional advisors and the Community Foundation, you can create a plan that reflects your personal values and complements your overall financial goals.

Although we welcome knowing about your plans, you are not obligated to disclose your intentions to the Community Foundation of South Lake County.

Thank you for being part of a story rooted in generosity and guided by hope. Together, we can ensure that the values we cherish today continue to shape South Lake County for generations to come.

Please call us if you would like to discuss your plans. (352) 394-3818
