Ready to keep Groveland’s legacy alive
Every year, Groveland High School alumni return home to swap stories, laugh about old memories, and celebrate lifelong friendships. As alumni gather each year, they’re doing something even more lasting: creating opportunities for young people who help keep the school’s legacy alive, says alumni president Ron Drummonds.
Through the Groveland High School Alumni Association, graduates preserve and honor the school they love by supporting two scholarship funds administered by the Community Foundation of South Lake.
The Frank B. Farr Memorial Scholarship Fund provides renewable awards to students pursuing higher education or career training, while the Shaw Buck Athletic Scholarship Fund recognizes students who demonstrate athletic participation, leadership, and the character exemplified by Coach Buck during his more than four decades of service to Groveland High School. Both scholarships now include vocational and technical education, reflecting today’s many pathways to success.
Although Groveland High School became part of South Lake High School in 1993, the school’s spirit never disappeared. Alumni remain deeply connected to their hometown and the values that defined their school.
Support for scholarships has become one of the organization’s most important missions, said Drummonds. Every reunion, every golf tournament, every silent auction, and every donation help grow the scholarship funds and extend opportunities to deserving students.
Anyone—not just alumni—can support these scholarships. Contributions of every size help ensure that Groveland’s legacy continues through future generations of students.
For many, the annual reunion is more than a chance to reconnect with classmates and reminisce about days gone by. It’s an opportunity to preserve their heritage and serves as both a celebration and a fundraiser, bringing together generations of graduates who are proud to preserve Groveland High School’s history while giving back.
