Why choose a donor advised fund?
Many people want to support causes they care about, and they also appreciate having flexibility in how and when they give. That’s why donor-advised funds have become one of the most widely used charitable giving tools.
Donors can establish and make tax-deductible contributions to their fund, which may be invested for potential growth and then distributed over time to qualified nonprofit organizations recommended by the donor.
A donor-advised fund allows you to support multiple charitable organizations through one simple account. Whether your interests include education, health, children and families, or disaster response, and more, you can provide support to the organizations you wish while keeping your giving organized in one place.
Many donors appreciate this flexibility. They can contribute when it makes financial sense and recommend gifts at any time. As priorities change, their giving can evolve as well.
A donor-advised fund can also become a lasting part of a donor’s legacy. Many donors name successor advisors (often family members) who continue the donor’s wishes after their lifetime. Others choose to direct their remaining fund balance to specific charities or areas of interest. A donor’s estate directive may allow the Community Foundation to continue honoring their charitable intent through ongoing support.
Most importantly, a donor-advised fund helps donors focus less on administrative details and more on impact.
